FAQ

What is your cancellation policy?

We all know life happens, and illnesses happen when we least expect them. If you or your child is sick, you should be home resting, not trying to force your way through a lesson to avoid losing money. That's why you have up until an hour before your lesson to cancel. If you cancel before that hour mark, you won't be charged for the lesson.

Why does a parent or guardian need to be present for younger kids' lessons?

Learning piano is tricky. Your child is essentially learning to read a whole new language when being in a learning environment is still new to them. Many young children aren't ready to practice on their own, so their first lessons are going to be a journey you take together. Sitting in on the lesson with your child, if only for part of the lesson, will help you learn alongside them, so you can practice together at home.

How often should I be practicing?

This is a tricky question, because it all comes down to your own personal goals. Is your goal to improve quickly or prepare pieces for performance? You might want to work practice into your daily routine. Are you learning music as a hobby between work or classes? A few times a week would be fine. Your improvement is fully based on how often you play. Of course, there will be weeks when life gets busy and you aren't able to practice at all, and that's okay. We can use your lesson time as a guided practice time if you didn't have time to practice at home.

What is the monthly package?

The monthly package allows you to purchase a full month of weekly lessons at the beginning of the month for a 10% discount. This is a great option if you want weekly lessons on a consistent schedule. If you'd prefer bi-weekly lessons or lessons on a more sporadic schedule, paying for each lesson individually would be the better option for you.

Are you only in-person? Do you offer virtual lessons?

It depends. Theory and composition lessons will always be offered virtually as well as in-person, but for all other instruction, it depends on the student's level. Intermediate and advanced students can be quite successful with virtual lessons, but beginner students often struggle with them. If you or your student is only just learning how to read notes and still getting used to how to maneuver the instrument, I would highly recommend sticking to in-person lessons. In-person lessons take place at my apartment in Inwood, right off the A train.
